Jaw Surgery

Most patients are not looking to have jaw surgery. Bringing your child to an orthodontist starting at age 7 can often prevent the need for jaw surgery. Nevertheless, there are still patients that require jaw surgery as part of their orthodontic treatment plan. Jaw surgery can be life changing! It can change a patient’s facial appearance, improve breathing by widening the airway, and can correct painful or uncomfortable bites. Did you know Dr. Peterson and one of our team members have had jaw surgery? At Synergi Orthodontic Specialists, we understand the process from both the doctor and patient perspective.

Here are some facts about jaw surgery:

Jaw surgery is also known as orthognathic surgery.

Combined orthodontics, and orthognathic surgery typically takes place after growth stops, usually between 14-16 for females and ages 17-21 for males.

Jaw surgery can be done in combination with braces OR aligners.

We have excellent oral surgeons in the Inland Empire. Dr. Peterson is very familiar with working with our local surgeons as a team to create the best outcome for our patients.
