Before Orthodontic Floss Picks, this floss threader was the method used to floss under the wire with braces, and it’s still prefered by some patients. It’s also a great tool to floss under your bonded retainer.

This floss is great for braces or bonded retainers. It has a stiff end, then a yarn like portion, and then the regular floss, making this easy to thread between teeth or under wire. The yarn portion is very helpful to clear out plaque.

Waterpik

Waterpik

A Waterpik flosser is not a replacement for flossing, but it certainly is a great tool to “powerwash” your mouth or to help parents clean under their kiddos’ expanders. This is a portable version so you can use it in the shower and avoid getting water all over your bathroom mirror. Dr. Peterson uses one of these regularly. You can fill this with cool or warm water to help maintain your oral hygiene.

This is a water flosser that can be hooked directly to the shower head and comes with 2 different heads. It’s easy to install-trust us, Dr. Peterson was able to do it herself!

Philips Sonicare Toothbrush

Philips Electric Toothbrush

An electric toothbrush can be more effective for manual as the rotary can be more effective in plaque removal and the timer encourages patients to brush for enough time and in all quadrants of the mouth. This is the one Dr. Peterson uses. The oral B version works great too!

Hum Colgate Toothbrush

Hum Colgate Electric Toothbrush with App Game

This is a kid’s electric toothbrush that connects to a game to help kids clean the sugar bugs and earn points. It gamifies toothbrushing. Dr. Peterson’s kids LOVE this and want to brush their teeth multiple times a day in order to be able to play this game.

MI Paste

MI Paste Remineralizing Gel

MI Paste is a topical dental cream that strengthens and protects teeth by remineralizing them with calcium and phosphate. This is a cream that can protect teeth against cavities and white spots or can reduce the appearance of white spots. We recommend placing it in your retainer or clear aligner and wearing at night time. It comes in a fluoride and fluoride-free option.

We also sell this product in the practice in a variety of flavors for $25.

Lip Protector/Wax Alternative

This is a lip protector for braces. It is great for musicians, athletes, or any braces patient. It is also a great alternative to wax. It is helpful to have, especially in the beginning of orthodontic treatment to avoid any sores until your lips and cheeks get used to the braces.

Shock Doctor Mouthguard

Shock Doctor Mouth Guard

Shock Doctor Dual Arch Mouthguard for use with braces during sports. The dual arch version is sometimes requires for football, lacrosse, boxing, etc. This version does not have the helmet strap but there are versions that come with a strap.

Underarmour mouthguard

Single Arch Mouth Guard for use during sports to help protect your teeth and braces. This one is slightly less bulky than the dual arch Shock doctor version.

Interproximal brush

Interdental Brushes

This is a small bristle brush used to clean around the braces. This is a great tool to keep in your purse and backpack as well as in your bathroom to use many times throughout the day, especially after you at to get food that is stuck out of the braces.

The orthodontic start kit at Synergi Orthodontic Specialists comes with one of these as a sample but we recommend you purchase a bulk pack to have many. We recommending purchasing moderate or wide for between braces. The very tight size can sometimes be used below bonded retainers, but it is generally not big enough to clean around braces.

This is a wax alternative snap on comfort cover for braces-helpful for sports, musicians, and for everyone especially in the beginning of treatment when you are getting used to braces. This snaps on a different way then the other comfort cover version listed above on this site. Sometimes you need to trim these to fit your mouth. We are happy to help if you bring this in to your appointment!

Orthodots (Wax Alternative)

This is a great alternative to wax, especially if you have trouble getting the traditional wax to stay on. It acts as a cushion to the braces if you get a pokey wire, or in the beginning of treatment to help you be more comfortable until your lips and cheeks get used to the braces.

Colgate Peroxyl Rinse

Colgate Peroxyl Rinse

Peroxyl is a minty oxygenating alcohol-free rinse that speeds gingival (gum) healing after gum irritations (from braces) or canker sores and keeps bacteria levels in check. Some people complain the mint is strong but the product can be diluted and still provide healing gum relief. Just swish for as long as you can and spit!

 

*Note this product does have blue dye in it. Dr. Peterson prefers dye-free product options, however, in terms of effectiveness of healing mouth sores, this product is still the best we have found, thus we recommend using it as needed to help a heal a mouth sore, but not using it on a daily basis when mouth sores are not present.

Sometimes using your finger to hook up your orthodontic elastics can be a little tricky, and there are also some people who don’t like sticking their fingers in their mouth throughout the day. Perhaps you are a parent helping your child hook up your elastics. In all these scenarios-we recommend these elastic hooks to help make the job easier.

We encourage our patients to have this tool, that way if a problem arises, you can quickly take care of it until you can come into the office for your next appointment. Orthodontic Wax acts as a cushion between the brace and your cheeks/lips/tongue. These are helpful as you are getting used to braces, or if you get a pokey wire.

This is a temporary night guard that sometimes can be helpful with braces to avoid biting on brackets or for your comfort as your bite is changing to a better position. We can not guarantee this will fit with your braces. We also do not recommend using this if you don’t have braces as it can cause your teeth to shift.
